Law introducing simplified procedure for issuing residence permits to repatriates

The President signed Federal Law On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation.

Amendments are made to Federal Law On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation, stipulating that foreign citizens with repatriate status who have been approved as participants in the State Programme to Assist Voluntary Resettlement of Compatriots Living Abroad to the Russian Federation, and members of their families, will be granted residency in the Russian Federation without obtaining a temporary residence permit first.

In addition, provisions have been added to Federal Law On the Procedure of Exit from and Entry into the Russian Federation, authorising the Government of the Russian Federation to experimentally test the rules and conditions for exit from and entry into the Russian Federation for foreign citizens and stateless persons, as well as a requirement to record foreign citizens’ and stateless persons’ data using uniform transliteration of their surname and names from Latin into Cyrillic script.

The procedure for conducting the aforementioned tests and the transliteration of names into Cyrillic will be established by the Government of the Russian Federation.

Also, an amendment is made to Federal Law On State Genomic Registration in the Russian Federation, enabling foreign citizens and stateless persons to voluntarily undergo genomic registration free of charge as part of these experimental procedures.
